A mortuary is used for keeping the deceased that are waiting for identification, burial or cremation, for autopsy, disposal or etc. However, the storage of human corpses may range from a few hours to a few days and in some rare cases, a few weeks.
In order to prevent or delay the bodies from decomposing, they need a constant refrigerated environment at temperatures between 2 °C (36 °F) and 4 °C (39 °F). Mortuary refrigerators are equipment that maintain a suitable environment for the bodies of the deceased. Nearly all modern health care facilities would have a cold room with a mortuary refrigerator available. These units are widely used at hospitals, railways, airports, disaster camps and army etc. However, the increasing usage of these fridges has resulted in the development of many features to enhance their usability in the mortuary environment.
What Can You Expect To See In a Mortuary Refrigerator?
Mortuary refrigerators are typically constructed of stainless steel in order to maintain durability and ensure ease of cleaning. Other features include a high/low audio and visual temperature alarm, digital LED control panel, stainless steel stretcher trays, castors for ease of movement and optional temperature logger. Depending on the requirement, the customer may choose to have a mortuary refrigerator with doors that open from the front or from the sides.
